Liability protects against your responsibility
Auto liability coverage generally addresses injuries or property damage you cause to others, subject to the terms of your policy and applicable state rules. Bodily injury and property damage liability are usually described with limits. The amount required by law may not cover every serious loss.
A liability policy usually does not repair your own car after a collision you cause. It is important to understand the distinction before comparing prices.
Collision and comprehensive are different
Collision generally concerns damage to your car from a collision or rollover, while comprehensive often addresses covered noncollision causes such as theft, weather, and certain animal impacts. Exact definitions, exclusions and deductibles vary by contract.
The phrase full coverage
‘Full coverage’ is conversational shorthand, not one standardized insurance product. Ask for the declarations page and identify exactly which coverages, limits, endorsements and deductibles are included.
